Classical Pilates Workshop
Continuing the series of guest teachers, I'm excited to say that Rosy Clark has kindly agreed to come and do a one off special workshop covering the Classical Pilates repertoire. During the session, Rosy will cover a number of the exercises originally created by Joseph Pilates and described in his book Return to life through Contrology. The book is essential reading for anyone interested in the origins and history of Pilates.
The workshop will last for 1.5 hours so that Rosy can take you through the exercises in more detail than in a normal class. The session will be technique specific giving you tips to master the movement patterns. Exercises covered will include ones that we do in class (like the hundred, single/double leg stretch, leg circles and swimming) but also some of other the exercises that are rarely taught.
Rosy came to Pilates during her career as a professional dancer, choreographer and dance teacher. Rosy found that Pilates complemented her dance training perfectly and gave her a deeper understanding of how the body works. She also used Pilates to help her rehabilitate from a serious back injury which resulted in surgery. She has been teaching Pilates for over 15 years and you can read more about her background on her site www.pilatesaim.co.uk/my-experience/. There are some great shots of Rosy demonstrating some of the classical exercises in her gallery www.pilatesaim.co.uk/gallery/.
It was Rosy that helped me with my rehabilitation from surgery to repair a separated shoulder and broken collarbone following a cycling accident. It was during my 1-2-1 rehab sessions with Rosy that I started to truly understand the power of Pilates. Without Pilates and Rosy's expertise as a brilliant Pilates teacher, I would not be moving as well and as strongly as I do now. Rosy also remains my teacher today, helping me to continuously challenge my movement patterns and understand more about Pilates.
To get the most from the workshop, I recommend that you regularly attend a Core 2 or 3 class with me and have done so for at least 6-12 months. It may be possible for clients in a Core 1 class with good experience to also attend but please discuss this with me before booking.
The workshop is exclusive to Opotopo Pilates clients.
Places are limited to a maximum of 12.
